Kosciusko County 2022-2023 Experience Guide
That’s No Yolk!
Mentone, Indiana was founded in 1882 and is home to what the locals call the world’s largest egg – that’s no yolk! The 3,000 pound concrete egg statue stands in the middle of town and proudly proclaims the area’s nearly 140 year history of providing commercially produced eggs to stores all around the country. Hence, Mentone is known as the “Egg Basket of the Midwest.”
Every June the town holds it’s family friendly Mentone Egg Festival, complete with a parade, flea market, craft vendors, food and live entertainment. Also not to be missed when visiting is the Lawrence D. Bell Aircraft Museum – honoring the town’s favorite son, American Industrialist and founder of the Bell Aircraft Corporation. Each year you can attend the fly-in event, Rotors Over Mentone.
Mentone with its two banks, two doctors, hardware store, shops, and churches is quaint, welcoming and exemplifies Hoosier Hospitality. Don’t forget to grab a cup of joe at Java Jacks Coffee House and peruse Pete & Freddy’s Pages Aplenty Bookstore, browse the shops and stop by Teel’s Restaurant right downtown – a staple in Mentone for decades.
